đ Note: This article explains how participants in team-based competitions can communicate with team members within each challenge.
What is a Team Chat?
Team Chats allow team members to communicate directly within specific challenges in team-based competitions. Each challenge has a dedicated chat space exclusive to that team.
How does access to Team Chats work?
Each challengeâs Team Chat is private to your team, meaning only current team members can view the messages. Event organisers and other teams in the competition cannot access your Team Chat messages. You will only see messages from your own team within each specific challenge.
What Can I Use Team Chats For?
Team Chats can help you and your team coordinate efficiently, especially if team members are participating remotely. Common uses include:
Leaving notes for team members to pick up where you left off
Recording flags previously submitted to avoid duplicate submissions
Requesting help from specific team members on a challenging task
Team Chats can be used as a primary communication tool or to supplement other communication platforms your team may be using for a competition.
Navigating to a Team Chat
Click on a challenge within your competition to open it in the side view.
The Challenge Resources tab will appear by default, alongside the Connor tab (if enabled for the challenge).
To access the Team Chat, simply click on the Team Chat tab.
đ Note: Team Chats are available for the entire duration of the competition, as long as you have access to the competition as a team member. You can access a Team Chat at any stage, regardless of whether the challenge is opened, attempted, or completed.
Viewing Team Chat Messages
Once in the Team Chat, youâll see all messages posted by your team members.
Posting Messages in Team Chats
Type your message in the input box [1] (1000 characters max per message).
To add an image, click the Attach Image [2] button. Supported formats are JPEG, JPG, PNG, and GIF (you can attach 1 image at a time per message).
Click Send [3] to post your message.
All messages posted in Team Chats are visible to your team members. You cannot restrict messages to specific team members.
Tagging Team Members in Messages
To tag a team member, simply type â@â in the input box and select the team members you wish to tag from the list that appears. You can tag multiple team members in a single message. When youâre tagged in a message, youâll receive a notification on your screen. Click X to dismiss it.
đ Note: Notifications only appear if youâre actively using the platform when the message is posted.
Editing Existing Challenge Chat Messages
You can edit any message you post in a Team Chat by following these steps:
Click the Edit (pen) icon under the message.
Make your changes (up to 1000 characters and 1 image per message).
Click the Save (tick) icon to finalise, or Cancel (cross) to discard changes.
Edited messages will display â(edited)â to indicate theyâve been modified.
Deleting Existing Challenge Chat Messages
To delete a message you posted, simply click the Delete (bin) icon under the message.
Important Team Chat Access Notes
Team Chat access remains available for the entire duration of the competition. Once the competition ends, youâll lose access to Team Chats and other competition resources.
If you leave your team and join a new one, youâll no longer see messages from your original Team Chat but will gain access to the message history of your new team. Similarly, any new team members will gain access to all previous Team Chat messages upon joining.
If you lose access to the competition (e.g. by leaving or being removed from your team without joining another), youâll also lose access to all Team Chats associated with that competition.
