Teach mode is the presentation view of a Session. It is designed for use at the front of the classroom or over video conferencing. Content editing tools and teacher resources are hidden in this view. Per-question analytics are visible directly on the page so you can see where students are up to and where they are struggling.
Each Session has three views: Prepare, Teach, and Analyse. See Stile Sessions: Prepare, Teach, Analyse for an overview of each.
Release the Session to the Class
Teach mode focuses on a single Class at a time. Select the Class you are teaching from the Class selector menu at the top of the page. If the Session is hidden from that Class, a note will appear next to the menu. Click Release to make it visible to students instantly. Keep it hidden until you are ready to present.
Summon your students to the right page with Teleport
Click the Teleport class button to redirect all logged-in students in the Class to the current Session. Teleport runs for 60 seconds and also catches students who log in during that window. Click the button again at any time to cancel. See Teleport your students to the right Session for more detail.
Present videos and interactive content
Teach mode displays videos and simulation widgets in the same view students see, without editing tools or Teacher tips visible. Use this to present videos as discussion starters, or to run escape room simulations as a whole-class activity. This is also useful when students cannot access YouTube or Vimeo on the school network but teachers can.
Tip: Uploaded videos include a picture-in-picture option per your browser, found next to the fullscreen button. Use it to pause the video and scroll back up to review earlier content in the Session without losing the video.
Check Teacher tips during class
Teacher tips contain extra information invisible to students, including discussion prompts, further reading links, and context for tricky questions. When a small lightbulb icon appears on the right side of the page, click it to reveal the tip. Click it again to hide it. Students will not see the tip on their own screens, but may see it if you are presenting to the class.
Run a poll or brainstorm
The Poll and Brainstorm widgets are designed for live classroom use and work well for remote teaching too. They allow students to contribute responses without speaking up or raising their hands, and responses can be shown anonymously to encourage participation from shy students.
Controls at the top of the widget apply only to the Class currently selected. All student responses appear on your screen in real time. You can control when students can respond and whether they can see each other's answers.
By default, responses are anonymous. The Brainstorm widget has an option to show student initials. Clicking on a poll option reveals who selected it.
Pause the Class and bring attention back to you
Click the Pause button to freeze your students' screens. Students will see a message reading "Eyes on your teacher. Your teacher has paused the session." Use this to redirect attention during a discussion, before playing a video, or when students are moving ahead too quickly. Students who are on a different page and don't look up are likely on a different Session or website.
See Pause your Class in Teach mode for full details.
Use the navigation panel to jump to a question
The navigation panel on the left side of the screen lists every question in the Session. Each question shows a progress bar indicating how many students have attempted it. Key questions and Challenges are marked with their respective icons.
Click any question in the panel to jump directly to it. This is useful for picking up where you left off or for jumping to a specific question for discussion. The panel highlights questions currently visible on your screen as you scroll.
Note: If progress bars are not visible, the panel may be minimised. Click the icon at the top of the panel to expand it.
Demonstrate how to answer a question
You can interact with questions in Teach mode to show students how to respond. Answers entered in Teach mode are not saved and do not appear on students' screens. Do not use Teach mode to create model answers. See Prepare mode: review and customise Session content for how to create and edit model answers.
Discuss answers and student responses
Each question in Teach mode has two controls for class discussion.
Show responses displays student responses for the class. Polls, multiple-choice, and true/false questions show the count per option. Open-ended questions open Quick review so you can scroll through individual responses. Responses are anonymous by default.
Show answer reveals the model answer. Multiple-choice and true/false questions show ticks and crosses. All other questions display the full model answer on a pale yellow background.
Use these tools to address common misconceptions in real time and to highlight strong responses during or after a Session.
