The Text widget adds text content to a Session without requiring a student response. It does not accept image uploads. Use it within the Side-by-side layout widget to place text next to an image or video.
Text in Stile is automatically narrated and compatible with screen readers.
Pro tip: Copy text from any source and paste it directly into a blank Session (Ctrl+V on Windows, Cmd+V on Mac). Stile will automatically create a new Text widget for you.
Rich text toolbar options
Undo and redo
Click the undo/redo arrows to step backwards or forwards through recent changes. Keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+Z / Cmd+Z to undo, Ctrl+Shift+Z / Cmd+Shift+Z to redo.
Text formatting, colour, and emphasis
Choose from four text styles: Normal (default paragraph), Heading 1 (titles), Heading 2 (section headers), and Heading 3 (subsections). Apply Bold, Italic, or Strikethrough emphasis. Use the underlined A menu to apply a text colour. Pick a consistent style combination and apply it throughout the Session.
Text alignment
Set text to left (default), centre, or right alignment.
Mathematical notation
Click the maths button to switch to the maths toolbar for writing equations and chemical formulae. A full list of keyboard shortcuts is available at cortexjs.io/mathlive/reference/keybindings/.
Bullets and numbered lists
Create bullet point or numbered lists. Use the indent and decrease indent buttons to add nested levels. These buttons are greyed out until a list is active.
Subscript and superscript
Add subscript or superscript without opening the full maths editor. Useful for chemical formulas (H₂O) and equations (A² + B² = C²).
Horizontal break
Inserts a thin grey dividing line between text blocks. Useful for separating sections or signalling a change of topic.
Block quote
Indents selected text, shades it light grey, and adds a vertical bar on the left. Use it to highlight a passage, quotation, or key information.
Pop-up glossary definitions
Add pop-up definitions and images to words or phrases to support reading comprehension and vocabulary development.
Hyperlinks to other Stile pages or websites
Click the chain link button to link text to an external website or another Stile Session. If linking to a Session, make sure it is released to students so they can access it.
Insert code (monospace)
Formats selected text in a monospace font. This displays code visually but does not execute it. To embed a working HTML file, use the Share file widget instead.
Clear formatting
Strips all formatting from selected text and resets it to the default style.
