What are Mobility Attributes?

The following list explains in further detail each of the Mobility Attributes that can be added to your Profile. These accessibility features may not be standard in all tourism businesses. We encourage all businesses to evaluate how you can incorporate these elements to create a more inclusive and welcoming experience for all guests.

Use floors/ coverings which are slip resistant, firm and smooth

Installing slip-resistant, firm, and smooth flooring throughout your venue, such as in hallways, entrances, and dining areas, helps prevent slips and falls, providing a safe and stable surface for all visitors, especially those with mobility challenges or using walking aids.

Use non-slip tiles in the bathroom or slip resistant matting

Incorporating non-slip tiles or slip-resistant matting in bathrooms, particularly around shower areas and sinks, reduces the risk of accidents on wet surfaces, ensuring that everyone, including those with reduced mobility or using wheelchairs, can use these areas safely.

Have grab rails in the bathroom

Installing grab rails next to toilets, inside shower areas, and near bathtubs offers essential support, helping individuals maintain balance, move independently, and safely use the facilities. For example, a hotel bathroom with grab rails enables guests with mobility issues to feel more secure and comfortable.

Provide seating in common areas including reception area

Providing seating in common areas, such as the reception area, corridors, or near elevators, allows guests who may need to rest frequently, including older adults, pregnant women, or those with mobility issues, to sit comfortably while waiting or moving through your venue, enhancing their overall comfort and experience. For example, placing benches or chairs in a museum's lobby offers visitors a place to rest while exploring exhibits.
