High Support Needs Attributes Explained

The following list explains in further detail each of the High Support Needs Attributes that can be added to your Profile. We recognise not all businesses will have these accessibility features readily available. We encourage you to review your current offerings and consider adding features that will improve the experience for visitors with high support needs.

Have a bathroom which is fully accessible and equipped with ceiling hoist and adult change table

Providing a fully accessible bathroom equipped with a ceiling hoist and adult change table ensures that individuals with significant mobility impairments can be safely transferred and cared for, enhancing comfort and accessibility.

Have twin beds available on request

Offering the option of twin beds in accessible rooms allows guests to choose sleeping arrangements that best meet their needs, providing flexibility and comfort for different types of travelers, including companions or caregivers.

Have rooms which are interconnecting

Providing interconnecting rooms offers convenience for families, caregivers, or companions traveling together, ensuring that they have easy access to each other while still enjoying private space.

Have a Changing Places or Lift & Change toilet with a hoist and adult change table

Having a Changing Places or Lift & Change toilet equipped with a hoist and adult change table provides a safe and dignified space for individuals with disabilities who require additional support, allowing them to attend to their personal care needs comfortably.

Provide room for hoist under the bed

Ensuring there is at least 100mm of clearance under the bed allows for the storage and use of a hoist, facilitating safe transfers for individuals with mobility impairments.

Train staff to use a DeafBlind Communicator

Training staff to use a DeafBlind Communicator, which consists of a DB-Phone and DB-Braille with QWERTY or Perkins keyboard, enhances communication with guests who have both hearing and vision loss, ensuring they receive the necessary support.

Have options available for easier communication for people with dual sensory loss

Providing communication tools such as adapted telephones, adapted mobile telephones, Telephone Typewriters (TTYs), and fax machines for sending messages in large print supports guests with dual sensory loss, making communication more accessible.

Have a place to store medical equipment

Offering a designated space to store medical equipment, such as oxygen tanks, ensures that guests with medical needs can keep their essential equipment safely and conveniently during their stay.
