What is individual marking?
Individual marking lets you choose which students to automark, so you can mark one student or a small group without re-marking the whole class.
This is useful when students sit an assessment at different times. For example, you can automark the class on Monday, then automark the two students who were absent once they finish on Thursday. Everyone else's marks stay exactly as they are.
Before you start
You need an assessment that has been assigned to your class and can be automarked.
At least one student must have Submitted or be In Progress. Students who have Not Started cannot be automarked.
How to mark individual students
Part 1: Automark the students who have finished
1. Go to Assignments in the left-hand menu and open the assessment you want to mark.
2. Scroll down to the table in the Markbook tab.
3. Click the checkboxes of the students you want to automark. Students with a status of Submitted or In Progress are selected by default.
To tick or untick all eligible students at once, click Sort.
To mark only some students, untick the students you don't want to mark yet. (un select students
Note: Students below the Not Started line have not opened the assessment and cannot be selected for automarking
4. Click Automark. Only the ticked students are marked. (have everyone selected here)
5. Review the results. Each student's marks, grade and the Class Average update straight away.
Note: After automarking, all checkboxes are unticked so no one is accidentally marked twice.
Part 2: Mark students who finish later
When more students are ready to sit the assessment, reopen the assignment so they can complete it.
2. Once they've submitted, go back to the Markbook tab.
Note: Students with a status of Submitted or In Progress are selected by default.
3. Tick the checkbox next to each newly submitted student. Leave everyone else unticked. Click Automark.
Only the students you ticked are marked. Marks you've already saved for other students are not changed.
Repeat Part 2 as often as you need, for example for each group of absent students.
