📖 Note: This article provides detailed information for an Admin or Manager on how to create an assessment. This article focuses on creating custom assessments, rather than template-based assessments.

Accessing the Create Assessment Page

You can create an assessment by selecting Manage [1] in the mode dropdown in the sidebar, clicking Home [2], and then clicking the Create button [3]. Clicking Create will then open a dropdown where you can select to create an Assessment [4].

📖 Note: only users with the “Manage Events” permission can create assessments.

Selecting an Assessment Creation Option

A modal will appear where you can select which type of assessment you would like to create (custom or template-based). Select the Create Custom Assessment option.

Inputting Assessment Details

Once the Create Assessment form has opened, you can choose whether to create an individual-based or a team-based assessment by using the Assessment Type [1] radio dials. Participants in an individual-based assessment complete the assessment by themselves, whereas team-based assessments enable participants to complete the assessment as part of a team.

You can name the assessment by using the Name [2] text box. You can also add a description by using the Description [3] text box. The description will only be visible to other Admins and Managers.

Next, using the Jump Box toggle [1], select whether you want to enable a Jump Box for participants in the assessment to be able to connect to assessment resources securely. Note that once your assessment has started, you can't change the toggle option selected.

Set when your assessment will start by entering a date and time into the Assessment Start [2] field. Participants can only start the assessment after the time specified here. If no start date or time is specified, then participants can start the assessment as soon as they are invited to join the assessment.

Next, set when the assessment will end by entering a date and time into the Assessment End [3] field. Participants cannot start the assessment after the end time. However, participants who have already started the assessment before the specified end time will be able to finish the assessment.

The dates and times you select here will reflect your system’s time. For example, if your system was using AEST and you scheduled an assessment to start at 09:00am, then the assessment would start at 09:00am AEST.

You can set a duration time for the assessment by using the Duration Hours and Minutes [1] fields. The duration time reflects how long participants will have to complete the assessment from the moment they start the assessment.

You can move to the next page in the Create Assessment form by clicking on the Next [2] button. You can also leave the form by clicking on the Cancel [3] button. This will delete any information you may have entered.

Selecting Challenges

Add challenges to your assessment using the checkbox column [1] next to the challenges that you want to add. You can search for a challenge by clicking on the Search [2] icon. You can also search for challenges by clicking on the Filters [3] button, as shown in the image below.

Any challenges you select will appear at the top of the page. You can see Total Challenges [1], the assessment's duration [2], and a heatmap [3] showing the coverage of selected challenges across the Cynaptic Skills Adaptor Framework's Proficiency levels and Skills.

Additionally, you can see the techniques covered in the assessment via selected challenges by clicking the Techniques tab [4]. See technologies covered by clicking the Technologies tab [5].

Once you're ready, you can move to the next page in the Create Assessment form by clicking on the Next [1] button. You can also return to Step 1 by clicking on the Back [2] button. Click Cancel [3] to exit assessment creation, losing any inputs you have made.

📖 Note: All labs in lab-based challenges have a duration of 2 hours. Participants can extend their lab instances as many times as they require, resetting their lab timers to 2 hours and retaining progress made. Participants can also reset their labs as needed, which will deploy a new lab instance and erase all progress.

Assessment Messages

After you have selected challenges, you can create a custom pre-assessment message by using the Pre-Assessment Message [1] text box. This message will be shown to participants both before and during the assessment. To supplement your messaging, you can add a video link [2]. Note that only Vimeo Embed URLs are supported.

You can also create a custom post-assessment message by using the Post-Assessment Message [3] text box. This message will be shown to participants after they have completed the assessment. Default messaging will be pre-populated into both input boxes, which you can edit as required.

When you're ready to create your assessment, click the Create Assessment [1] button. You can also return to the previous page by clicking the Back [2] button. Click Cancel [3] to exit assessment creation, losing any inputs you have made.
