This user guide contains information on how users with the Manage Events permission can duplicate a competition.

Finding the Duplicate Action

From the Manage Competitions page (i.e. from the Competitions button in the sidebar), you can view a list of all competitions which exist within your organisation.

Click the Actions menu icon [1] next to the competition you want to duplicate. Once opened, you will see an option to Duplicate [2] the selected competition.

Note that you can duplicate a competition of the following statuses: Not Started, In Progress, and Ended. However, archived competitions will need to be unarchived before you can duplicate them.

Inputting Duplicate Competition Details

Once the Duplication Action has been clicked, a Duplicate Competition flow will open, where you can make inputs to the duplicate competition.

In duplicate competitions, most inputs from the original competition will be carried over for you to either leave as the same, or make edits to.

Inputs from the original will be duplicated as per the original at the time of its duplication. Note that any changes made to the original will not reflect in the duplicate after it has been created. Changes made to a created duplicate competition will also not carry over to the original in any way.

In the Competition Type section, you can change the Competition Type [1] of the duplicate competition being created. Note that the Competition Type cannot be changed once the duplicate competition is created.

Additionally, note that the Level type [2] cannot be changed. E.g. if you are duplicating a multi-level competition, it will remain as a multi-level competition.

Afterwards, you can edit the duplicate competition’s Name [1], Description [2], and Story [3] as required.

Next, you can view and edit the duplicate competition’s Availability, and toggle between Manual [1] or Automatic availability type [2].

Note that if you are duplicating an Automatic competition, the Start [1] and End times [2] and dates of the original will not be carried forward - the End time and date will need to be specified by you before proceeding.

Selecting Duplicate Competition Challenges

After you are satisfied with your duplicate competition’s details, you will be able to view and edit the list of challenges assigned to the competition.

The challenges assigned to the original competition (at the time of its duplication) will already be selected. You can add a challenge to your competition by clicking on the Checkboxes [1] next to the challenges that you wish to add. You can select all challenges on the table by clicking on the Checkbox [2] in the top left-hand corner. You can also search for challenges by clicking the Search [3] icon.

📖 Note: All labs in lab-based challenges have a duration of 2 hours. Participants can extend their lab instances as many times as they require, resetting their lab timers to 2 hours and retaining progress made. Participants can also reset their labs as needed, which will deploy a new lab instance and erase all progress.

Creating Messaging for a Duplicate Competition

Next, you will be able to view and edit the messaging for the duplicate competition being created.

You can write competition rules, tips or anything else that you’d like participants to read by using the Set Instructions [1] text box. Participants can access these instructions both before and during the competition. You can also set a message for participants to see once the competition is over by using the Post-Competition Message [2] text box. Once you’re happy with your competition, you can hit the Next [3] button. If you need to go back and change anything from the previous pages, hit the Back [4] button. If you don’t wish to create the competition, hit the Cancel [5] button. This will erase the competition.

Checking the Summary and Creating a Duplicate Competition

The final stage of creating a duplicate competition is checking the summary. Ensure you check that all details inputted on previous pages (i.e. Details, Availability, Challenges, and Instructions) are correct. Once you are ready, click Create Competition [1].

If required, you can click Cancel [3] to abandon the process of creating the duplicate competition.

Note that you cannot duplicate the list of invited participants of a competition. Hence, there is no step for adding participants in the creation of a duplicate competition.

Once the duplicate competition is created, you will be able to View and Manage it as a regular competition. This means you will be able to invite participants from the competition once it is published.
