Multi-Flag Multi-Level Challenges

📖 Note: this article explains how participants take part in a multi-flag mission, where a single level is completed by capturing several flags.

📖 Note: Multi-flag missions are currently only available in team-based multi-level competitions.

What is a Multi-Flag Mission?

Most challenges on the platform have one flag. A multi-flag mission is a level made up of several flags, worked through as a set.

Each flag is its own challenge, with its own points, proficiency and submission. Solving one is not a prerequisite for any other, so you can attempt them in whatever order you like. The numbering shows the suggested sequence, not a lock.

Opening a Mission

Missions appear alongside the other levels on the competition’s Challenges page. Selecting one shows its summary, with the counters [1] tracking Attempted, Solved and Points across the whole mission.

A Multi Flag Mission badge [2] identifies it, and Open Mission [3] takes you into the mission workspace.

The summary shows the Mission brief [4], the Flags [5] in order with their status and points, and the mission’s combined specialties, proficiencies, skills and estimated time [6]. You can also see the Mission lab and start it from here [7], the most recent message in the mission’s Connor thread [8], and the latest message in team chat [9].

Working in the Mission

Open Mission opens a full-screen workspace for the mission. The header carries the mission name and counters, a status selector [1] for setting your own status, the Mission lab status and Start Lab control [2], and a close control [3] returning you to the Challenges page. The mission brief sits above the working area.

The flags are listed down the left [4]. Select one to load it, and the selected flag is highlighted. The main panel shows that flag [5] with its position in the mission, points, status, attempt count and skills, and the Submit Flag box [6] is fixed at the foot of the panel.

You can drag the divider [10] between the two panels to give yourself more room to work on the flag, or more room for Connor and team chat.

Connor and Team Chat in a Mission

CONNOR [7] and Team Chat [8] sit together in the right-hand panel, and both are shared across the whole mission rather than being tied to a single flag [9].

This means one Connor conversation covers every flag in the mission. Switching between flags does not start a new thread or lose what you have already discussed, so you can pick up where you left off as you move through the mission. Team chat behaves the same way.

📖 Note: This is different from a standalone challenge, where Connor Coach keeps a separate chat for each challenge. Within a mission there is a single thread for all of its flags.

The Mission Lab

Where a mission has a lab, there is one lab for the whole mission rather than one per flag. You can start it from two places: the Mission lab row on the mission summary [1], or the Mission lab control in the workspace header [2]. Either starts the same lab.

The first start can take up to a minute while the environment is prepared, and the workspace tells you while it is doing so.

Things to Keep in Mind

  • Flags can be attempted in any order. The order shown is the suggested sequence, and nothing is locked behind solving an earlier flag.

  • Each flag is submitted on its own and scores on its own, exactly as a single challenge of that proficiency would.

  • The mission counters aggregate its flags, so Attempted, Solved and Points reflect the mission as a whole.

If something is not working as expected, raise a request with the FIFTH DOMAIN support team from the Helpdesk tab in the Connor panel.
