This page has information on how Organization admins can transfer ownership of content(Challenges/Tasks, Labs, and VMs) to another organization.
What is the meaning of ownership on FD platform?
This is the content that is owned by your organization. It is the content you have created in your organization and/or the content that your organization has purchased the ownership of, from another organization. For an owned piece of content, following actions are possible, or in other words these are the ownership rights :
It can be edited.
It’s ownership can be transferred to another organization if it is published.
It can be packaged in events(Competitions, Courses and Assessments) if it is published.
Tags can be applied to it.
Duplicates(in case of Labs and VMs) can be created.
What is the meaning of Transfer of Ownership of content?
When a piece of content has its ownership transferred from one organization to the other, the seller(previous owner) organization loses access to that content. The buyer(new owner) organization gets access to this content as it starts to get displayed in their library:
Newly bought Tasks/Challenges start living in the Manage Tasks/Challenges page under Manage Content.
Newly bought Labs start living in the Manage Labs page under Manage Content.
Newly bough VMs start living in the Manage VMs page under Manage Content.
The buyer(new owner) organisation gets all the ownership rights(as mentioned above) for this content.
Transferring Ownership of a Task/Challenge
Step 1: Sourcing the Organization Alias (Org Alias) of the buyer organization
This is an out of platform exercise. This can be enabled through out-of-platform communication between the seller and buyer organization. An organization on FD platform has access to it’s unique Org Alias[2] through the Profile dropdown[1]. Only the admins in the organization are able to see this information.
The seller organization(current owner) needs to have access to the Alias of the buyer organization(potential new owner).
Step 2: Selecting the Challenges to be transferred
On the Manage Challenges page which is accessible from the left navigation bar under Manage Content, you can transfer ownership of the challenges that are in published state and owned by your organization.
Select the challenges using the Checkboxes[1] in the Challenges table.
Note: Although you will be able to select the challenges that are provided(not owned) to your organization via checkboxes, they will not be part of the challenges that get transferred.
As one or more challenges are selected, the bulk action menu[2] appears. From the drop down select the option of Transfer Ownership[3].
As you select the option of Transfer Ownership, a Transfer Ownership modal opens.
Step 3: Entering the buyer Org Alias
In the Transfer Ownership modal on top, you are required to put in the unique Alias of the organization you wish to transfer the challenges to, and that you sourced out of platform as the first step(mentioned above).
Step 4: Reviewing the challenges and confirming the transfer
The transfer ownership modal displays the list of all the owned challenges selected to be transferred. You can revise this Challenge list[1] before confirming the transfer.
All the challenges that have labs attached will be displayed as well in the Associated Labs and VMs table[2]. This information may be useful incase you are required to transfer all the associated content(Labs and VMs) with the challenges to be transferred. This is an optional step, as these challenges will work as expected even without transferring ownership of attached labs or VMs.
If you are not happy with the list, you can close the modal by pressing Cancel[3], discarding this transfer instance and then starting the process again.
After you are happy with the list of owned challenges that are to be transferred, you have to agree to the terms of transfer of ownership to the Org whose Alias you entered above, by checking the agreement Checkbox[4].
After this to conclude the transfer of ownership, you have to click Confirm[5].
After this, you will get validation : Transfer of Ownership has initiated.
The challenges will now stop existing in your organization and start living in the organization of the new owner.
